The Indonesian goulash ("Rendang") is Matthias Maurer's dish of choice, which he will prepare together with the world on 19.03.2022. This dish was developed for space by TV star chef Tim Mälzer in collaboration with LSG Sky Chefs.
Rendang is a dish similar to curry in Indonesian cuisine. It originated as a feast of the Minangkabau, the largest ethnic group on Sumatra. It is a spicy dish made of mostly beef or other meats such as lamb, chicken or duck. Rendang is a component of Padang cuisine. This uses a variety of meal parts served in individual bowls. However,
Rendang is also a popular (festival) meal as a single dish, served with rice.
In 2011, an online poll by CNN voted 'rendang' the tastiest dish in the world.
So that everyone in the world can participate in the biggest club music dinner event, we will share the original recipe. What you need to participate now? An internet connection and the ingredients. Then you're ready to go.
What is the Cupola on the ISS?
Cupola (Italian for dome) is a dome-shaped observation tower on the International Space Station. It is located on the mostly Earth-facing side of the Tranquility module. A viewing window full of technology, it is also called the "window to the world", favourite place of many astronauts.
In addition to an incredible view of the Earth, the astronauts can also carry out operations outside the station from there. These include, for example, robotic activities of the Canadarm 2 robotic arm, which is controlled from the ISS, as well as observing the approach of spacecraft and spacewalks.
Matthias Maurer is also always enthusiastic about the view of our home planet from the Cupola:
"Directly behind me, you can also see part of the SoyuzMS-19 crew spacecraft docked to the Rassvet module, as well as the Prichal module attached to the Nauka multi-purpose laboratory module.
When I first looked out of the Cupola, I thought at first that all the white was the sky, until I realised that it was Earth surrounded all around by the blackness of space. An incredible view!"
Official start of the mission
The BigCityBeats SpaceClub Kitchen will launch on 19 March 2022 with ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer on the International Space Station ISS.
Not only has the date for this orbital event now been set, through a cooperation with the "World Association of Chefs Societies" (WACS), 12 million chefs will also be on board the "Space Club Kitchen". While Matthias Maurer circles the world once with the ISS, we will dance and cook a common dish together with him and millions of other people worldwide. On our free "Space Club Kitchen App*", we will live stream over 50 selected dinner events around the globe at particularly exposed locations and connect them with Matthias Maurer on the ISS.
Everyone will have the opportunity to follow this global event live. In all kitchens, the Indonesian dish Rendang, personally selected by Matthias Maurer, will be cooked at the same time. During the event, Matthias Maurer will mix a DJ set and send it to earth. Together with you, we will make history and unite the world for one moment.
Thumbs up for a successful EVA! @astromarshburn looks right at home on the end of the Canadarm2 as it's manoeuvred by @astro_raja and I from inside the @iss 🦾 He and @astro_kayla spent 6 hours and 32 minutes outside the Space Station on Thursday to replace a faulty antenna. And I'm pleased to report, they were happy with our driving 😉 Photo credits to Pyotr Dubrov and Mark Vande Hei.

One of the best things about international collaboration? Sharing international celebrations and culture 🎉 I'm thankful for all my crew mates up here on the @iss and everyone supporting our mission from #Earth 🌎
Each delicate phase of James Webb Space Telescope's deployment will be precisely orchestrated, in an unprecedented detailed sequence of events.
This will be the majestic symphony of Webb, its first breath in a whole new world to unfold.

First week aboard the ISS
First weeks aboard the @iss 👨🚀
Barely three weeks into space life, first-time flyer @esamatthiasmaurer has operated a robotic arm, welcomed a docking module, slept in a brand-new bed and changed plans a few times due to space debris alerts. Even science has not been routine, as he ran a handful of experiments for the very first time in orbit.
Our current astronaut-in-residence arrived at the International Space Station on 12 November in a Crew Dragon spacecraft for his six-month Cosmic Kiss mission.
Matthias, who is the 600th human to fly to space, is now well-adjusted to his 'space legs'.

Did you know mass and weight are not the same? ⚖️
In this set of images you can see @esamatthiasmaurer "weighing" himself aboard the @iss.
Matthias posted on social media saying: "I'm currently weightless but my body mass is definitely not zero. Measurement of the mass in zero gravity requires other techniques than on the ground - a normal scale wouldn't work here. This Russian hardware uses the resonant frequency change for calculating the mass."

This is how you throw a Cosmic Kiss 💋
@esamatthiasmaurer and NASA astronauts @astro_raja, @astromarshburn and @astro_kayla liftoff to the @iss in the @SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft "Endurance".
Collectively known as "Crew-3", the astronauts were launched from launchpad 39A at @nasakennedy in Florida, USA at 02:03 GMT/03:03 CET Thursday 11 November.
The spacecraft docked to the International Space Station at 00:32 CET Friday, 12 November/23:32 GMT Thursday, 11 November, marking the official start of Matthias's first mission 'Cosmic Kiss'.

We are going for launch this week‼️ 🚀🐉💋
[UPDATED on 2 November 2021]
The @spacex Falcon 9 Crew Dragon spacecraft "Endurance" is being readied for launch at @nasakennedy in Florida. Due to a minor medical issue involving one of its crew members, the launch of @esamatthiasmaurer and the rest of Crew-3 had to be postponed again targeting no earlier than 04:36 CET Sunday 7 November.
This is the first spaceflight for Matthias, who will be the 600th human to fly to space.
Aboard the @iss, Matthias will become a long-duration crew member, spending around six months living and working in orbit. During this time, he will support more than 35 European experiments and numerous international experiments.

A new crew will be heading to space‼️ 🚀💋
@esamatthiasmaurer and his NASA crew mates @astro_raja, @astromarshburn and @astro_kayla are all smiles as they arrive at @nasakennedy in Florida, USA on 26 October 2021.
Collectively, the astronauts make up Crew-3 and will travel to the @iss on the @SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft "Endurance". The first launch opportunity for Crew-3 is 07:21 CET (06:21 GMT, 02:21 EDT) Sunday 31 October 2021, with a backup date of 3 November.
The Dragon will dock with the Space Station 22 hours after launch, allowing for a short overlap with the Crew-2 members who are due to depart the Station in the coming week.

A BigCityBeats Club Kitchen in Space?
Was great to talk at the #foodmeetssience in Amsterdam...
More infos soon
CEO Bernd Breiter at the
Expo 2020 with Matthias
Maurer
Today I had the opportunity to expand my horizon at a wonderful panel where I was able to talk to @newspace2060 in the german pavilion of the Expo in Dubai.
We spoke directly with the German astronaut @esamatthiasmaurer about our concept of the BigCityBeats Space Club Kitchen: Entertainment meets science.
Our mission is to connect the whole world. How?
During his mission Cosmic Kiss, Matthias Maurer will cook a dish in a stream that everyone around the whole world can join so that when he takes the first bite, the whole world will have the same taste at the same exact moment.
Big thanks to the ministry of economy in germany, ESA Astronaut Matthias Maurer, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Campus Germany
CEO Bernd Breiter and Matthias Maurer
I had the chance to say good bye to my friend @esamatthiasmaurer who will start his space mission soon!!! So proud of all future things. See you in space! 🚀
